News English and Culture opens the gate to the world for students, aiming to enable students to get involved in the world via English learning and broaden their horizon at the same time. The topics range from culture, technology, finance, history, people, politics, social issues, life, and entertainment, which will bring students out of their comfort zone and prepare them to explore fields they are not familiar with. The expansion of world knowledge is one of the essential learning elements for college students. The instructors will be focusing on related vocabulary and fixed expressions. Guest teachers will be invited to class to compare and contrast different cultures for students' in-depth understanding regarding cultural issues. The students, according to their specialty, major, or interest, can share their experience in terms of presentation- individual report, or, group report so as to attain effective learning of English.

The major reading materials will be supplied by the instructor each week. During the course of the semester, students may be required to purchase a small number of issues of newspapers and/or magazines.
評価方法
1. Attendance and Participation: 20% — Being present means coming to class on time, prepared, and ready to participate in activities and discussions. If you are absent, you are still responsible for completing assignments. More than 6 absences in the semester is grounds for failure. Habitual lateness will be penalized: being late 3 times counts as one absence. Every absence over 3 will reduce your final grade by 5%.
2. Midterm Exam: 20%
3. Quizzes: 20%
4. Classwork, presentations, and homework: 20% — Homework includes reading reflections and short writing exercises. They will be submitted in class or online using Google Classroom.
5. Digital Portfolio: 20% — Students will collect their written work into a digital portfolio to submit at the end of the semester.
