This university preparatory English course has two main purposes. First, it will provide opportunities to develop in-depth written and spoken English skills in academic and workplace settings. A review of grammar, usage, and style will be provided, and you will be taught the conventions of writing academic paragraphs and essays, including research and citation. Secondly, the course provides an introduction to the study of literature. You will develop skills in understanding and appreciating fictional narratives and creative non-fiction. By discussing, evaluating, and writing about literary texts, you will develop critical and analytical thinking skills essential to all of your academic and professional pursuits.
