This course is intended for Intermediate I level students who wish to improve their techniques of speech perception in English. The course content draws on a wide variety of basic English phonological properties. This course allows students to distinguish the phonemic features of North American English, to target essential phonetic information and to become familiar with the usual types of speech (conversation, radio, TV, etc.). Content elements are practiced on spoken samples recorded specifically for the course as well as on authentic samples covering topics relevant to Canadian life and culture. At the end of this course, students will be able to perceive and analyze phonological nuances.
