Welcome to the course on Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility at SolBridge. In alignment with the school's mission, our prime goal is to fulfill the promise of SolBridge - educating the next generation of Asian Thought leaders. As a part of this mission, we aim to instill in our graduates a Global Perspective, Asian Expertise, Creative Management Foundation, Cross Cultural Competence, and a profound sense of social responsibility. This course is designed with a dual focus in mind, akin to the concept of "bad apples" and "bad barrels." Firstly, we will delve into the importance of individual ethical awareness and decision-making. In a rapidly evolving global business landscape, it is crucial for each member of an organization to possess the skills to recognize and analyze ethical issues and effectively communicate their analyses in written form. We will equip you with the tools to make ethically sound choices and foster an environment where such decisions are valued. Secondly, we will explore the organizational dimension - the concept of "bad barrels." Organizations play a pivotal role in shaping the ethical behavior of their members. We will delve into cross-cultural variations and similarities in organizational practices related to corporate social responsibility and business ethics. You will gain insights into diagnosing the sources of an organization's ethical culture and potential deviant behavior. Additionally, we will delve into designing ethical programs aimed at achieving specific objectives within organizations and nurturing ethical leadership skills and practices. By the end of this course, you will not only be equipped to make ethically sound decisions on an individual level but will also understand how organizations can either foster or hinder ethical behavior. Together, we will embark on a journey to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become ethical leaders and responsible global citizens. The objectives of this course are to: 1. Improve the capability to recognize and analyze ethical issues by learning from real-life business scandals and studying how individuals involved managed them, focusing on extracting valuable lessons while avoiding negative examples. 2. Understand how different cultures approach corporate social responsibility and business ethics in organizations. 3. Learn to identify where an organization's ethical culture comes from and what causes unethical behavior. 4. Develop the skills to create ethical programs that meet specific organizational goals. 5. Build ethical leadership skills, so you can lead with integrity and responsibility.
