SolBridge Mission & Course Objectives The prime goal of the course is to deliver the promise of SolBridge. SolBridge has the mission of educating the next generation of Asian Thought leaders. The school aims to instill in our graduates a Global Perspective, Asian Expertise, Creative Management Foundation, Cross Cultural Competence and a sense of social responsibility. This class is for anyone who has a passion for music and learning. The material is based around an anthropological approach to the topic. That means there will be a diverse and broad range of material presented that relates to all of the various aspects of music. Some of the core concepts include: 1. Genres of music and how musical genres have developed over time, and some of the most important musicians and composers. 2. Global perspectives and how music has developed in different places in the world, and the similarities and differences on a world-wide scale. 3. History and technology and how technological inventions have affected both the kinds of instruments made and used, and how music is enjoyed by listeners. 4. Why and how humans make and use music, and the amazing range of diversity of human creativity and culture. 5. Basics of musical analysis and theory, and how to recognize and explain certain features of music. Please provide a brief introduction to the course by emphasizing the relevance and the importance of the course. Also, clearly articulate the course objectives (one to three objective(s) ) The objectives of this course are: • To increase students topic knowledge base. • To demonstrate a holistic anthropological exploration of a topic. • To broaden and deepen appreciation for the art and craft of music. Learning Outcomes Following successful completion of the course, the participant would be able to: • CO 1: Analyze music more fully utilizing core concepts from the class. • CO 2: Apply new vocabulary in order to more fully describe and explain music. • CO 3: Evaluate music from a more global and historical viewpoint. • CO4: Create a small original piece of music.
