COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is a beginning theater class with an introduction to the basic elements of theater vocabulary, theater theory and performance styles. Students will be introduced to theater as a paradigm, script analysis, standard acting methods and will work on developing a confident stage presence.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of the course the students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of what theater is,
Demonstrate an understanding of and use basic theatrical jargon;
Demonstrate an understanding of basic acting techniques;
Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking through basic acting techniques.
REQUIRED READINGS:
Required readings consist of book excerpts and handouts that are available in the Files tab and linked to relevant assignments.
GRADING (100):
All grades are posted in Canvas so students can track their individual progress.
60% In Class Participation and Engagement
40% Module Completion
Extra Credit Participation points will be available throughout the quarter as an opportunity to improve your overall percentages. Extra Credit assignments do not take the place of regular assignments.
