Classroom activities, which including role-plays, pair work, group work, competitions, develop students’ communication skills to engage in daily conversation and express their ideas effectively in English.
課程概述
This first-year listening-speaking course aims to develop the student’s use of intermediate grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and discussion skills to communicate in English.

授課內容
1. Speaking and listening in pairs and/or small group
Preparing, in pairs or small groups, dialogues on assigned or free topics based on read or heard examples of authentic conversations. Acting out the prepared dialogues.
2. Spontaneous responding while in conversation
Asking questions based upon heard statements made by their interlocutors. Giving logical and accurate answers. Short, spontaneous and simple conversations among classmates and/or with the teacher based on read or heard articles from the textbook.
3. Proper pronunciation and fluency
Practising the correct pronunciation and fluency of speaking based on heard passages and conversations played from CD.
The goal of the coure is to have the students gain the ability of holding an (un)prepared conversation in variety of real-life situations. Very important is also to help the students to overcome natural shyness, and cope with fear of speaking.

In large classes it is probably easier to practice listening than speaking. You will have many opportunities to hear the teacher speak and listen to recorded speech about various topics. You will also be called on to comment, answer questions, fill in blanks, and otherwise contribute your input to the class. It is not expected that you will always know exactly what to say, but it is expected that you will give your best effort without excessive delay. We will try to give each of the 64 students a little personal time and attention as often as possible. Please be considerate of your classmates and use it efficiently.

Additionally, wide variety of further materials will be provided by the teacher as well as by the students themselves. Such materials may be:
- articles and their parts from books, magazines, the internet, etc.;
- handouts provided by the teacher;
- downloadable media;
- oral performances prepared by students (at home or in the classroom, individually or in groups) and presented in class which are the bases for further in-class activities;
- audio examples: recorded speeches, news, conversations, etc.
- dictionaries.
