Course Objectives
The main objective of this course is refine academic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills that will be needed for first-year university classes. In this course, you will sharpen your research, academic writing, referencing, presentation, discussion, note-taking and critical thinking skills.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Generate ideas and organize your ideas into essays, support your writing with research, and use feedback to revise your work;
Write reports, summaries, and argument essays (4 or more paragraphs, up to 1500 words);
Write with a range of simple, compound, and complex sentences with a fairly high degree of accuracy in grammar, spelling and punctuation;
Use the internet and library to research and evaluate credible sources, and refine APA citation skills;
Read a variety of 7-10 page authentic texts and authentic novels; make predictions, generalizations and inferences; and identify bias and logical fallacies;
Use a range of reading strategies to help you improve your reading speed and comprehension; interpret charts, graphs, and timelines;
Use a variety of strategies to help you develop your general and academic vocabulary.

In order to graduate, you must complete all components of the Bridging Program, which includes both EAP courses and the Academic Credit. Students must obtain an average of 73% in the EAP courses (with no grade below 65%) in order to pass the Bridging Program. The results of the Academic Credit will appear on the student's permanent transcript.
Your final program mark will be calculated as follows:
Reading and Writing Final Mark 45%
Listening and Speaking Final Mark 45%
Grammar, Research/Writing,
Vocabulary (Independent Study) Focus 10%
