foci such as employee empowerment, setting expectations, benchmarking successes, globalization, cross-cultural
communication, and the increasing role of information technology. Secondly, experiential learning will take place
with a focus on critical thinking, self-critique, case study examinations including components of roleplay and
negotiation of complex situations.

PARTICIPATION
Your participation and/or attendance policy for the course is detailed here.
Student and Visitor Exchange Program
In compliance with the Student and Visitor Exchange Program (SEVP) requirements for F-1 international
students, this course has an in-person component, which is (Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 -10:50 AM in Bldg
29, Room 106). All students, regardless of status, are invited to attend. The in-person component of this class is
not required for any student.
Active participation is necessary for learning in the hospitality and tourism field to occur. Therefore, you are
expected to read the course materials present on Canvas, participate in classroom and on-line discussions,
complete learning activities and contact your professor if you have questions. You will find that participation is
necessary to do well on the quizzes, learning activities, the final paper and final exam.
Please pay attention to doing your own work (avoid plagiarism) submit your work on the due dates, and be cordial
to all members of the course. Losing points can occur through cheating such as plagiarism, submitting work after
the due date or not following the Syllabus instructions and Canvas announcement messages. If you miss a due
date for any assignment, you may not have an opportunity to complete the assignment. Points will be deducted
for each day that the assignment is late, which will result in a lower grade.
Plagiarism is submitting assignments that you have not done yourself (someone else’s work or AI
generated). If you submit an AI generated document or partial AI document as your own, that assignment will
not be accepted and not graded.
ASSIGNMENT PROTOCOLS
All final exams take place face-to-face in courses that are scheduled face-to-face. Hybrid and online courses have
final exams that take place online. The time and location of your final exam will be dictated by the College.
Instructors cannot move final exam locations or times. You are responsible for knowing the time and location of
your final exam. This can be located on Highline.edu.
If you miss the final exam but completed the rest of the course, then you may be assigned an Incomplete
depending on the situation. Incompletes can be made up later in agreement with the instructor. You will not be
given an Incomplete if you choose to depart campus early. Flight dates are not a reasonable excuse for missing a
final exam.
Assignment Grading
All assignments are graded on a rubric. The rubric will be made available in Canvas prior to the due date.
Assignments will be marked within seven (7) days unless there are extenuating circumstances. You will receive
feedback on your performance. Your progress in the course will be monitored by the professor. You will receive
regular emails from the professor on your progress and proactive communication to help you improve.
