●Course Content This is a 2-credit elective. This course is designed to support students with the interpersonal communication skills necessary for active participation in college-level course group discussions, including techniques for leading group discussions. In addition, listening skills required for college lecture courses will be taught. Students will work in pairs and small groups, developing their skills as members and leaders of discussion groups. As a final project, each student will be responsible for leading a discussion with the whole class. For listening skill development, students will listen to recorded lectures and/or watch documentary videos and do comprehension and/or note taking activities. ●Class Schedule : ✖ ●Text book: ✖ ●Course Requirements and Grading This is a Pass/fail class. You will earn a grade of “S” (satisfactory) or “U” (unsatisfactory) based on your effort and participation in this class. Your grade will be based on the following: 1. Attendance: Attend regularly and be on time. If you are sick and cannot attend class, you must contact me before class to let me know. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will be marked absent. IMPORTANT: IF YOU MISS MORE THAN 2 CLASSES, YOU WILL NOT PASS THIS CLASS! 2. Participation in class: You must participate fully in all class activities and discussions. 3. Final project: There will be final projects at the end of this class. You will lead a class discussion about a topic of your choice. 4. If you miss a class and notify me beforehand, you will be given an alternate assignment.
