The module will examine British culture at the local level (The Potteries and regional dialects), the national level (the political system and the monarchy) and the international level (Britain's place in the world). This module is open only to students with a non-British educational background, or by prior arrangement with the module tutor. Aims - To develop awareness of a variety of aspects of British culture - To develop self-confidence in dealing with various aspects of British culture Intended Learning Outcomes demonstrate a critical awareness of a variety of aspects of British culture: 1,2 reflect upon the differences they identify between British culture and their home culture: 1 1 reflect upon the norms and values of a variety of social groups: Study hours 22 hours of classes (a mixture of informal lectures, discussion groups and pairwork) 41 hours private study 50 hours reflective journal preparation 37 hours video preparation School Rules This module is open only to students with a non-British educational background, or by prior arrangement with the module tutor. Description of Module Assessment 1: Reflective Analysis weighted 70% Reflective Journal Students produce an analytical account detailing their experiences of British culture. This will take the form of eight weekly journal entries each consisting of not less than 180 words each. 2: Project weighted 30% Video Project In groups, students produce a 10-15 minute video documentary about one of the themes covered during the input sessions. All videos will be presented for public viewing.
