・Course Description:
Theory and practice of drawing in various media with a range of subjects and aesthetic approaches. Emphasis on studio work integrated with slides, lecture, discussion, and out-of-class work.
・Textbook:
Tutorials included in the modules describe visual concepts and terminology relevant to drawing, with links to additional information. No additional textbook is required.
・Required Materials:
The supplies listed below are included in the Art 112 class kit, and are required for all Art 112 drawing assignments. The kit will be distributed in class the first day. Module 1 includes information about these supplies, and other commonly used drawing materials.
Graphite pencils, 1 each HB, 2B, 4B, 8B
1 kneaded eraser & 1 plastic eraser
Sketchbook: 30 sheets unlined drawing paper, 80 lbs.,11" x 14"
Additional materials: Black permanent marker, fine point
Optional materials include blending stumps, white gel pen or acrylic marker, chamois, gum erasers
・Grading:
Credit is earned through drawing assignments, class participation and quizzes. Assignment grades are based on demonstration of technical proficiency, effort and improvement of skills, along with the accurate use of artistic concepts and terminology.
To receive full credit work must be submitted by the due date; late work will be reduced .25 points (out of 10) for the first week after an assignment (or quiz) is due; -.5 points (out of 10) for the second week after an assignment (or quiz) is due, etc.
A change of grade status may be requested anytime up until the date listed on the WCC Registration calendarLinks to an external site.; a reminder announcement will be sent closer to that date. (Some programs, schools, and universities may not recognize the S grade in the same manner as WCC.)
Contact me or your WCC advisor if you have questions about S/U grading before contacting the Registration office. The S (satisfactory) grade is earned for overall scores of 70% or higher (C- grade). Some programs, schools, and universities may not recognize the S grade in the same manner as WCC.
While an "Incomplete" for this course is discouraged, it is an option for those who have shown sufficient effort and satisfactory progress (up-to-date assignments, 70% average on quizzes & discussion participation).
