Course Description:
This course introduces students to the humanities. The humanities (Art(s) of Life) encompass a broad array of human expressions of culture, society, values, and one’s own human spirit of actively/creatively being in the world. According to Dilthey, the humanities are “the spiritual sciences”. In this course, the humanities will be linked to the business tourist sector and other professions. Contemporary definitions will be examined, and models will be explored with a focus on developing competencies and a perspective agility that includes creative as well as critical thinking. Students are expected to learn from traditional dramas, plays, museums, art events, music, and a wide range of related tourist enterprises. The course provides an array of activities/assignments that will require students to”actively” participate in every class meeting via daily sketch-noting, reflective writing, discussions, and other assessments/indicators of engagement in the classroom experience - as well as - complete all homework assignments.
