This course offers students an introduction to the history of human movement through the lens of geography and leisure studies with a focus on travel, tourism, and visitor motivation and experience. World travel destinations are understood from a multi-stakeholder perspective including that of of travelers, travel agents and counselors, and destination marketing and management professionals. Topics include foundational geography concepts such as the tourist gaze, programming, sense of place, sustainability, and socio-cultural elements such as heritage, ancestry, and traditions.

この授業では、地理学とレジャー研究の視点から、人々が移動してきた歴史について学びます。特に、旅行・観光、旅行者が観光する理由（動機）、旅行中の体験に焦点を当てます。 世界の観光地について、旅行者、旅行代理店・旅行カウンセラー、観光地のマーケティング・マネジメント担当者など、さまざまな関係者の立場から考えます。 また、観光客のまなざし（tourist gaze）、観光プログラム、場所への愛着・場所の意味（sense of place）、持続可能性（sustainability）など、観光に関係する地理学の基本概念を学びます。 さらに、文化遺産、祖先・ルーツ、伝統などの社会・文化的な要素についても扱います。
