1.30-3.50 T,Th Text book: Real Communication Test: Test1,2,3, and group test4 Group Presentation Peer Presentation This class is designed to give you an overview of the field of communication, focusing specifically on the areas of public speaking and interpersonal & group communication. Some of the material we'll cover will seem obvious, some may seem rather abstract. All of it will challenge and empower you to improve the relationships in your life (at work, at school, and at home) by enhancing your awareness, understanding and skill level in communicating to and interacting with others. No matter how foreign, awkward, or theoretical the concepts seem, I'll be expecting you to genuinely try them out. Think of the ideas from this class as a set of sunglasses you might try on at the beginning of the sunny season; if you don't like them, you don't have to keep them, but I do expect you to try them all on. An important part of learning about communication is engaging in it. I want you to gain both “analytical" and “experiential" understanding of the issues at hand. Instead of traditional lectures, I'll be asking you to get involved in class, actively participating in activities and discussions that will allow you dissect and practice the concepts and skills we are covering. I'll expect you to come prepared, having read the text and ready to talk about or practice the concepts you've read about. Most importantly, I'll expect you to invest some of your self in the class and be truly present, sharing your thoughts, experiences, questions and ideas with classmates, trying out new skills, and critically assessing your performance as a communicator, in and out of class.
