Course Description: This is a survey course in history, philosophy and principles, issues, and trends in American Education. Includes opportunities for observations of educational models and exploration of career paths. Course Outcomes: ・Outline the history, philosophy and principles of American education. ・Compare the educational philosophies and models of influential figures in education. ・Describe the main theories of child development and their implications for program planning. ・Describe the theories of classroom management and their influence on education. ・Identify factors that influence children's ability to learn and ways to help children who are struggling with learning. ・Define the role of the educator in the program setting and the nature of the relationship between educator, parent, and child. ・Discuss issues and trends that currently impact children, parents, educators and educational programs. ・State personal philosophy of education. Core Learning Abilities: This course will give you the opportunity to practice and develop information literacy.
