Course structure: Lectures are designed to address global and transnational communication and its impact globally as well as locally. For this purpose, it stresses the significance of contextual factors (local political, economic and cultural conditions) in transnational communication. Lectures are aimed at identifying of relevant theoretical approaches in the analysis of observed practical tendencies, and students learn how to think creatively and apply comparative methods in small-scale communication projects. International communication is an outcome of globalization and is analyzed here both as practice and effects of mediated communication which occurs across international boarders. Though one of the keywords here is 'globalization', the course puts the strongest emphasis on two parallel developments - that of 'mediation' and that of 'mediatization'.
