Course description and Objectives 1. This course is designed to help students in the process of achieving proficiency in Spanish. This is an on going process that develops over a long period of time; the successful outcome of which is very much dependent on your time and effort both in and out of class. 2. The instructor's role is to facilitate learning and encourage you to succeed. I will be happy to providing you with opportunities to learn through more hands-on lessons. If you students feel like they are struggling or having difficulty with certain concept, I will be in my office Monday through Thursday at least 1/2 an hour before class. Course Requirements Participation and Attendance Participation is key in the achievement of the language proficiency. If students do not come to class, that will affect classwork, participation, and grades of tasks that we do in class. Students will not be able to make up any work that is not turned in a due date. Assignments and Activities Students will be able to practice the language a lot through listening, reading, writing, and speaking tasks. Every chapter will be covered in 3 weeks (or more if we need to make more emphasis on certain concepts). Please bring a dictionary, and limit the use of your cellphone during class, unless used for research assigned by me. There is going to be a lot of conversation and interaction in class, so students have to be able t produce since the very first day of class. That does not mean students have to speak perfectly, (we learn through mistakes) but it is necessary that students talk, take risks, and communicate in class the most that they can. Grading Distribution Tests 40% of final grade (there are at least 4 (oral and written) tests) Projects and Quizzes 40% Class Work 20% (attendance, participation, role-plays, conversation, interviews, among other tasks performed during the class time)
