The primary purpose of this class is to introduce you to the science of psychology and to the ways in which psychologists approach the study of mind and behavior. Specifically, the class intends to (1) expose you to the body of knowledge, research findings, and underlying principles that exist in the field of psychology, (2) stimulate you to think about the implications of psychological research for everyday life, and (3) apply psychological concepts to numerous aspects of your own life and to social issues. This course is very broad in content. While we will not be able to go in depth in every topic, we will cover a wide range of interesting topics (e.g. structure of the brain, forgetting, development, learning, motivation, psychopathology etc.) that will give you a good idea about what psychologists study.
