Course Overview This course provides students with an understanding of the basic concepts of critical thinking. Students increase their ability to assess information, reason and solve problems. As well, they develop the means to analyze and evaluate their own thinking and the world around them. Course Objectives 1. Describe the elements of critical thinking, including deductive and inductive reasoning 2. Assess how knowledge, evidence and errors in thinking influence problem solving. 3. Analyze the role of reason and emotion in critical thinking. 4. Formulate effective arguments. 5. Evaluate logical structure. 6. Describe and assess fallacies of logic, including formal and informal fallacies. 7. Assess the effect of critical thinking on personal decisions.
