Course Description Sociology is the study of human society and social interactions. Students develop awareness of the relationships between individual beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours in society. By applying sociological concepts to various aspects of Canadian society, students develop a deeper understanding of the ways in which groups interact. Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to: 1. Apply sociological perspectives to behaviour in social contexts. 2. Explore sociological research methodologies. 3. Describe how behaviours, attitudes, and beliefs are shaped through the process of socialization and the influence of culture. 4. Employ key concepts and theories when looking at sociological situations and problems. Course Evaluation: Tests: 60% Assignments: 40% Tests: You will be tested on the readings from your textbook and the information presented in class including video clips, articles, and class discussions. 8 Weekly tests: 7.5% each Sociological Perspectives in the Media- 15% Theory and Me Paper-15% Blackboard Journals- 5 x 2= 10%
