Course Description This course promotes effective communication skills essential for academic and professional success. Visual analysis and presentation strategies are employed to emphasize the importance of adapting communication to the intended audience. Students compose clear and concise messages through researching, writing and presenting to ensure effective communication. Students are expected to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve the course outcomes. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Organize information into a clear, and coherent message to fulfill a purpose while considering the effect on the environment. 2. Support your ideas with information to compose written, spoken and visual messages. 3. Integrate a documentation system to credit the use of information and ideas generated through research. 4. Revise information for content, language, and purpose for diverse audiences. 5. Practice active dialogue for personal, professional and academic purposes in different formats and environments. Course Content - Correspondence - Essays - Presentations - Listening/non-verbal communication - Visual communication - Research and documentation Assignment Submission and Evaluation and Grading Policy Tests/examinations/assignments must be written/submitted at the time specified. Requests for adjustments to that schedule must be made before the test/exam/assignment date to the faculty member. Failure to do so will result in a mark of “0", unless an illness/emergency can be proven with appropriate documentation at no cost to the College.
