The course introduces students to the global principles that underpin tourism. The course will consider the development, management, impacts and sustainability of tourism from different disciplinary perspectives including economics, geography, management, sociology and anthropology. Theoretical constructs will be introduced to illustrate how the phenomenon of tourism has developed and shaped the current global industry. Different scales – local, regional, national and global - will be used to illustrate how tourism interacts within a dynamic socio-economic world. The course will focus on issues of sustainability, destination development and global and Nordic trends.
