After a month I start taking classes this quarter, I feel that time flies so fast. Since I've been interested in business class, I also took one class under business major same as last quarter, my major is hospitality though. Before I take this business class, I thought I already understand what discrimination is, or how people have racism, but the lectures made me notice that I didn't understand about these. This class is very interesting and valuable to take.

I could not attend the first week since I went back to Japan for paperwork. I had to catch up that week and grade as well, but fortunately one of the teacher from public speaking class opened the discussion assignment for me and I could get regrade. Hospitality class is very different than other lectures under hospitality since the professor was changed. Personally, I think this class is more like business marketing class, it is interesting though. Our house accept new roommate from Korea, and it is very nice to have kind of diverse community at house.

Last month of 2015
This month, I was working a lot to accomplish my contract which was 200 hours. I was going to school school and airport almost everyday, even on the holiday such as thanks giving day, christmas, or new years eve. I saw many people came from other states to see their family for holiday and that was very touching. While I was working, I notice some cultural differences, for example people were saying something nice like Merry Christmas to each other even they never met before.

11th month
I finally started working at airport as an intern, from this month. The company I was working for was Port of Seattle, which is popular in airline industry. They gave each of us different schdules since we had to deal with working and classes at the same time. My shift was from 7am, so I had to catch a bus around 6. First two weeks were very hard because I had to get used to this schedule. But more I worked, more I learned.

Seattle was getting cold and raining a lot, way colder than Japan. About classes, I was only learning business mostly, since I could find any hospitality classes. One of the class under business, importing and exporting was very hard because I had to calculate a lot and also had own individual project which was produce and export product to other country. But I cold use some knowledge that I learned from other business classes, that was interesting.

firts month of the fall quarter
This month the last month before the holidays ends. Look back into the whole summer vacation, it was full of fun. I had a good experiences from something new to me. After all, it was good time. Finally, the fall quarter had started, and I thought its getting busier and busier. I registered only the classes under business major. While the first two weeks were tough since I just started this major as my second major.

半年経過
8月は、8/14で公式に夏学期が終わったので、8月は期末テストやレポートなどの提出が多く忙しい月になりました。今期の授業は、春学期の授業以上にグループワークが多かったのですが、個人で課題を勧められないぶん時間を合わせたり役割分担が曖昧になることもありました。ですがそれ以上に、とても良いグループに恵まれたので、お互いにフォローしながら出来、良い結果で学期を終えることが出来ました。夏学期を最後に帰国してしまう学生や編入で新しい場所へいく学生もいるので、お別れが多く寂しさを感じます。 今月からホームステイをやめて、ルームシェアに変えました。環境が変わり多少の負担は増えますが、秋にはインターンシップをしたいと考えているので、キャンパスや空港へのアクセスが良くなり、とてもよかったです。夏休みに入り時間が出来るので、げんちでのボランティア活動や可能であれば複数のインターンシップに参加しようと考えています。

五ヶ月目
短期間ではありましたが学期休みが明け、新しく夏学期が始まりました。春学期の時間割がお昼ごろからの授業で、他の学生(特に現地の学生)と被る授業が少なかったのがもったいないと思い、今期は朝の9時からの授業など、午前の授業を主にとるようにしました。自分の専攻の科目の他に、以前から興味のあったビジネスの授業をとり、さらに夏はジムがしまるため、エクササイズを追加しました。生活リズムが春学期と全く違うので最初は大変でしたが、時間を効率よく使えたのでよかったと思います。昨年度に、神田でマーケティングについて学んでいたので、基礎知識は入っていましたが、こっちで改めて学んでみると多少考え方や、価値観が日本とは違っていて面白かったです。クラスの平均年齢が高い授業でしたが、すでに職についている学生や主婦、あるいは他国からの留学生など、様々な視点での意見を交換することが出来、とても刺激的な授業でした。自分で店舗をマーケティングするのは2回目でしたが、日本で取り組んだ時とは異なり、今回はさらに細かく決めながら進めたので、より深く理解出来たと思います。

Beginning of Summer
I was not planning to take 5 classes on my second quarter, but one of the class under hospitality was opened only for this quarter by some students' s requests, so I decided to take it. I think I could learn a lot of new things about traveling. At the marketing class, most of the classmates were local students, so it was little bit hard for me to catch up to the class, as well as the group work, fortunately I had very nice member though.

学校も含め、現地での生活にもだいぶ慣れてきたこともあり、バスや電車などの交通機関を使って遠出をしてみたりもできるようになりました。現地の方の話すスピードにも慣れてきたので、聞き取れないことや、聞き返す回数も格段に減ったので、少しずつですが自分の英語でのコミュニケーション力の向上を実感することが出来ました。ホストファミリーにも、最初の頃の週に比べて話す速さや使う言葉のレパートリーが増えてきていると言ってもらえました。小さい子供の、曖昧に発音される言葉もほとんど理解できるようになり、その分楽しさも増しました。日本人以外の留学生とも授業を通してだったり、イベントで会ったりして話す機会も多く、そのおかげでアクセントの強い英語でも聞き取れるようになりました。会話に関してだけではなく、授業中にノートをとる速さや英文を読んで理解するまでの速さも以前に比べて早く鳴りました。些細なことからですが、自分のレベルの変化を見ることが出来ています。
